The Commitment March will take place on August 28th, 2020 — the 57th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. Announced by Rev. Al Sharpton during George Floyd's memorial, it is co-convened by Martin Luther King, III. This intergenerational inclusive day of action will demonstrate our advocacy for comprehensive police accountability reform, the Census, and mobilizing voters for the November elections.
Marchers will be required to wear masks to participate in the march.

The Wide Awakes are activating DC . We invite you to join our artist-led processional centered in creativity, community and joy as an act of resistance.
Hosted by Kindred Arts & The Human Rights campaign Collectively we will demonstrate the power of radical imagination and unity. Join our procession, as we walk to the ‘Commitment March’, the 57th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, hosted by the National Action Network.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The Commitment march, is scheduled 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., & will begin at the Lincoln Memorial and end at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

The group will start gathering along the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool starting at 10:45am and remain in place for the program of (NAN) speakers from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
10:45 am - 1:00 pm Program @ Lincoln Memorial
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm March on Washington
3pm Conclude program
There will be limited, spaced-out seating near the stage at the Lincoln Memorial, available on a first-come-first-serve basis, Washingtonian reports. Some seats will be reserved for people with mobility limitations. The Reflecting Pool area will be divided into socially-distanced “grids” for guests to watch the program from, each with signage displaying COVID-19 safety guidelines.
The Commitment March will comply with applicable federal and local requirements for physical distancing and protective equipment like face masks. Marchers will be required to wear masks to participate in the march. Free surgical masks will be distributed by NAN . Marchers who prefer professional respirators, such as N95 respirators, should bring their own.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges those participating in large gatherings to use face masks.

The Wide Awakes are a network of like minds who create in the name of liberation, artist sovereignty, and the evolution of society. We are a community of critical voices from the fields of art, design, fashion, technology, media, film, music and spirituality aiming to radically reimagine the future and enable self-emancipation.

What’s with the capes?
The capes are optional.
You can certainly join without one.
Our artist-led processional is centered in creativity, community and joy as an act of resistance and in recognition of the original 1860 Wide Awakes movement, sometimes we wear capes. (beautiful ones!)

Can we bring flags and banners?
Flags are allowed, but not on a pole. Posters and signs are allowed, but not with wooden sign posts. Instead, we encourage people to use cardboard sign posts.
What should I wear?
CAPES ON!! ( details coming soooon!!)
Please plan accordingly and dress for the weather. Especially if the temperatures are higher than normal, standing outside for hours at a time may impact you.
Can I bring folding chairs so that we can take rest?
Folding chairs are not permitted. If there are specific medical needs that you cannot have met with regular accommodations please contact dcbureau@nationalactionnetwork.net
Will there be a modified route for people with disabilities or limited mobility?
There will be a modified route for the march. We ask that people assess their own ability to march and make needed arrangements to participate.
What if I get arrested?
Please note that we are working with local and federal law enforcement and do not intend to engage in any civil disobedience. We expect all marches to abide by all laws and any instruction of law enforcement. Finally, we are planning a peaceful demonstration and are training marshals in a deescalation tactics and ask that all marches remain peaceful.
Where Can I Use the Bathroom on the National Mall?
There are public restrooms, all with handicapped accessibility, located by the Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, Jr., Lincoln and World War II memorials, as well as near Sylvan Theater on the Washington Monument grounds. All of the museums on the National Mall also have ample public restrooms.
