black history bike tour

Led by Community Coalition South LA, this organized bike ride will incorporate the locations of the art works, with a ‘mobile docent’ taking time to describe the works/artists and take questions. There will also be multiple stops associated with moments in South LA black history.

A conversation and showcase exploring the drivers of disparity as outlined in the report South Central Rooted as well as the amazing activity happening in the neighborhood to improve quality of life in the area, led by several of the partner organizations.

Monumental Women

In honor of Women’s History Month, Black Women artists explore the  power of the work on display and the multiple ways that art and gender intersect to write the narrative of Black America.

The tour will also honor the monumental achievements of Bridget ‘Biddy’ Mason (1818-1891) an American Hero. Born enslaved, Mason became one of the first prominent citizens and landowners in Los Angeles in the 1850s and 1860s. She also founded the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles in 1872.
